Today we visited the Grand Canyon with Angel's Gate Tours. We were picked up in a minibus from our hotel and driven to the Grand Canyon National Park picking up one other family on the way (there was already one family in the minibus when we were picked up).
Our guide who was extremely knowledgeable about the Canyon was named Kopavi. Despite the fact it is a Native American (Hopi) name, he was not a Native American. He said his parents were hippies and that's why they gave him a Native American name.
The first sight of the Grand Canyon itself is incredibly surreal. It almost looks like a film set or a picture, not a naturally occurring feature.
Having a guide, in my opinion, was essential. We were shown a number of different views and were at the Park roughly 5 hours, the average visit is 1 hour. We also were told a lot of other information which you just wouldn't get without a guide, plus lunch was provided so we didn't have to pay the vastly inflated prices in the Parks shops.
The Canyon is the only must-see on this holiday. You can't come to Arizona and not see the Canyon. We also saw 500 year old Indian paintings below the Rim and learnt far more about the Canyon than I already knew.
